Our Mission
Our mission is to help individuals to live positively with Hepatitis C and to support healthy communities. We recognise the importance of ensuring service user's needs are at the forefront of service delivery. Those affected by Hepatitis C are best placed to decide on the type of support, information and services they need and we endeavour to ensure their voices are heard.
C Plus began in 2005 and is currently funded by NHS Lothian and The City of Edinburgh Council.
Hepatitis C - A Silent Epidemic
Hepatitis C is a blood borne virus that attacks the liver and often has a long, relatively asymptomatic period, before infection is discovered. After years of infection it can be difficult to estimate how widespread the virus is and how many people may be infected.
As the virus is often associated with both former and current injecting drug users there may be fear and stigma surrounding testing or treatment for Hepatitis C. Unfortunately this results in less people being tested for the virus and ultimately delaying treatment, which could have a negative impact on treatment success and quality of life.
In addition Hepatitis C predominately affects communities which are already marginalised - from people affected by drink and drug misuse, to ethnic minorities and those living in poverty.
C Plus can offer individuals and communities access to up to date information about living with and treating the virus. We can also help them to take ownership of their health, to give them the ability to make their own decisions and to support them through the outcome.
