New Developments
There are several new polymerase and protease inhibitors in trials at the moment. These drugs work in a very different way to the present treatment regime as they interfere with the replication of the virus, rather than stimulating the body's own immune system.
In fact the new drugs are very similar to the drugs which are used to treat HIV and work in much the same way as they do.
it is likely that the new drugs will be used in combination with the present treatment and if the trials are successful it is likely that treatment times will reduce and treatment success rates will increase.
